Context & Inspiration

Inspired by the inherited building traditions of the Sorbian community, the
installation draws on the structural principles of the Umgebindehäuser—hybrid
timber-framed houses characteristic of Lusatia.

By reinterpreting their post-and-beam construction, the project anchors
itself in the architectural memory of the region while opening space for new
forms of participation. This locally grounded approach helps ensure that
both form and process emerge from Lusatia’s material culture, transforming
traditional building methods into tools for communal engagement and
collective storytelling.
